Democracy – The greatest spectator sport in the world
Presented herein is the A-Z guide to life and Politics™ in America during this election year.

A is for award
George W Bush voted Stupidest Man of the Year...

B is for blank verse
Who said politics doesn’t have a certain poetry to it? Certainly not Donald Rumsfeld, who has written poetry which can be found here.

C is for Canada
In a recent poll, 40 percent of Canadian teens said the United States is a force for evil in the world...

D is for Diddy
Hip Hop magnate P Diddy has launched the Vote or Die campaign, to encourage young people to participate in democracy and make voting cool.

E is for election coverage
Television networks this year again reduced the time spent covering party conventions in the lead up to the elections – citing punter boredom and political apathy.

Who would have thought that politics didn’t make for good television?

F is for finger
A young protestor is flipped of by George W Bush...

G is for Get Your War On

Presumably everyone knows about this by now, but it still deserves inclusion in any discussion on United States politics just for being one of the best commentaries on life during wartime.

Get Your War On

H is for Hollywood
Remember how everyone kept saying that September 11 was like a horrible movie come to life? Well, the CIA have finally agreed with that, sending it’s counter-terrorism thinktankers to meet with directors, producers and scriptwriters of action movies, in order to better predict terrorist plots.

I is for intercourse
In possibly the greatest triumph for democracy since, well, ever, the crew at Fuck the Vote have the simple mandate of “Trade Sex For Votes Against Bush”.

This is why we fought against Communism for so many years, Timmy.

J is for journalism
“When the press is free and all men able to read, then all is safe” said Thomas Jefferson. HL Mencken argued that: “Freedom of the press means nothing unless you own the press.”

The press in America has come under some scrutiny lately - specifically the Fox network, whose detractors accuse it of right wing bias. The most notable accusations coming in the form of the documentary Outfoxed.

K is for Kerrybot
A few minutes ago, John Kerry gave me a call.

Well, actually, it was just a robot that sounded like John Kerry.

L is for liberal
"Labeling someone a 'liberal' can be a very effective method of positioning and pushing them out of the mainstream. Especially when there is a long history of votes, statements and positions, such as Kerry and Edwards have, to confirm that definition.

"Democrats are terrified of the labeling. That's why President Clinton talked so much about welfare reform and 100,000 more cops on the street. Look for the Kerry campaign to try to highlight some conservative votes and positions to try to avoid that labeling at all costs."

M is for Moore
Because what would a discussion on American politics be without the presence of Michael Moore?

N is for Nader
Ralph Nader’s appearance in this election doesn’t surprise anyone, but where he’s getting his money from might...

O is for Operation Take One For The Country

Some may be worried about the legitimacy of the US’s presence in various overseas countries. Not OTOFTC, who exist to give… aid to the fighting men and women of the American military.

(In the last week the above link seems to have been eaten by the internet – choose your own conspiracy to explain why. In the meantime, there are sites commenting on OTOFTC here and here.)

P is for protest
Protest Warrior - Fighting the Left, doing it right

Q is for quotes
George W Bush is famous for his quotes – so famous, in fact, that the neologism ‘Bushisms’ has entered the lexicon.

R is for Rock
The second volume of Rock Against Bush was recently released. This compilation is strongly endorsed by the fine upstanding political commentators at Punkvoter.com.

S is for Sparky Penguin
Sparky is the mascot who appears regularly in Tom Tomorrow’s excellent political cartoon This Modern World which, if you’re not reading, you should be.

T is for technique
Rumsfeld fighting techniques

U is for Under God
One Nation Under God, it turns out, may be somewhat improper. To find out yea or nay, visit www.undergodprocon.org

V is for vote-rigging
Upon a deadlock in the vote to amend the PATRIOT Act so that it didn’t allow access to library records, the Republican Party kept the vote open for twenty-three minutes longer than is standard in order to get more lobbying done, prompting cries of vote rigging from the Democrats.

W is for without leave
Did George W Bush serve all of his allotted time in the National Guard reserves? Well, the people at www.awolbush.com don’t seem to think that he did...

X marks the spot
Weapons of Mass Destruction, anyone…?

Y is for You’re fired!
FBI translator Sibel Edmonds discovered that intercepted information relevant to the September 11 terrorist attacks, including references to skyscrapers, had been overlooked because it was badly translated into English.

She was fired shortly thereafter, and now, years later, Attorney General John Ashcroft has ordered that information about her firing be retroactively classified, including information that has been posted on the internet and openly discussed by Congress for over two years.

Z is for zombie
Simply the best political site today – bush-zombiereagan.com.

“Difficult times call for great leaders — men of vision, strength and courage. Men like George W. Bush and the shambling, reanimated corpse of Ronald Reagan.”

"You know back in 2000 a Republican friend of mine warned me that if I voted for Al Gore and he won, the stock market would tank, we'd lose millions of jobs, and our military would be totally overstretched. You know what? I did vote for Gore, he did win, and I'll be damned if all those things didn't come true."

-James Carville
